Nepal faction’s national convention on schedule

KATHMANDU: The Madav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal faction of the CPN-UML has decided to carry on with their national convention called for March 17 and 18.

According to sources, the faction will continue with their planned gathering after talks with Prime Minister KP Oli’s did not end on a positive note.

The announcement comes following leader Nepal’s briefing to leaders of his camp in New Baneshwor.

Earlier Monday, PM KP Oli’s faction had asked the Nepal-Khanal camp to put off their planned national convention saying such a gathering would not do any good to party unity.

Also, leaders of Nepal-Khanal caucus had indicated that they could cancel their national gathering if PM Oli revoked the unilateral decisions made on March 12.

The PM refused to fulfil the demands of the disgruntled faction and the two sides stuck to their guns Monday afternoon.

It is important to note that CPN-UML Chair and PM KP Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal met for formal discussions after a gap of nearly four months.
