Govt to procure two million Covishield vaccines

KATHMANDU: The government has started the process of purchasing two million vials of Covishield vaccines.

However, the government is still in talks with the manufacturing company Serum Institute of India regarding the price of vaccines.

The Family Welfare Division of the Department of the Health Services has sent the file with the proposal to purchase the vaccine to the Management Division, media reports said on Monday

Health Minister Hridayesh Tripathi and Secretary Laxman Aryal are holding further discussions on the issue.

The Ministry of Finance has already allocated Rs 2 billion for the purchase of vaccines.

Nepal has requested the company to provide the vaccine at the price sold to India, i.e. four dollars per dose. It said that it could be made available to Nepal at a cost of only four and a half dollars per dose.

However, the Ministry of Health has stated that the company was positive to provide two million doses at a price of four dollars.
