Home Minister seeks firm commitment to safeguard lives from earthquakes

KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa has said that firm commitment from all sides was needed to stay safe and save others from the possible earthquakes that could happen in the future.

At a program organized on the 23rd National Earthquake Safety Day on Friday, he argued that firm commitment was needed as one has to keep self-secured from the quakes.

Minister Thapa stated that one can stay safe from earthquakes after being aware and informed of the possible risks.

Saying that mutual coordination, cooperation, and support were indispensable for being resilient to earthquakes in the future, the Home Minister also laid emphasis on preparedness to combat such possible disasters.

“The state has formed different structures from top to bottom for self-secured and save others. Different organizations have been formed. Hundreds of thousands of volunteers are being formed. We can ensure risk reduction only from the coordination, cooperation, and assistance among all,” the Home Minister added.

On the occasion, Minister Thapa inaugurated the exhibition on Earthquake Safety Digital.

During the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) Sushil Gyawali shared the progress made by the NRA in the reconstruction of the properties damaged by the Gorkha Earthquake.
