A 26-year-old man sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife



KATHMANDU: A young man from Siraha has been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife by setting her on fire.

The district court has sentenced Binod Yadav, 26, of Aurhi-5 of Siraha to life imprisonment. The court ruled that he set his wife on fire and killed her.

A single bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Srivastava on Friday sentenced Binod to life imprisonment.

According to sources, Binod had set fire on his 21-year-old wife Anita Yadav on January 24, 2020. When Anita got badly burnt, Binod took Anita to the hospital.

Anita was treated at Max Hospital in Biratnagar. Later, she was rushed to Kirtipur Model Hospital in Kathmandu.

Anita died on the morning of 26 January while undergoing treatment. Her father Ashok Yadav had lodged an FIR at the District Police Office, Siraha on the same day.

Police had arrested Binod on January 25. He has been remanded in custody for trial.
