SC seeks evidence to decide whether or not to try former PMs in Baluwatar land grab scam

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday sought evidence to decide whether it should try the then Prime Ministers Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Madhav Kumar Nepal in the Baluwatar land grab scam.

A joint bench of SC Justices Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Hari Krishna Phuyal has decided to seek evidence to look into them.

Senior advocate Bal Krishna Neupane had filed a writ petition against the former PMs demanding an order to try them for facilitating the land grab by making cabinet decisions.

It should be noted that the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had earlier decided to not lodge a case against the former PMs by saying that they had taken policy decisions.

The apex court had given priority to the writ petition on hearing.

Neupane had also filed a writ petition naming the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and Attorney General’s Office as defendants for not filing a case against the Chairman of the Nepal Communist Party Prachanda-Nepal faction Nepal.
