Foreign Minister Gyawali flying to India today



KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali is leaving for India on Thursday.

Minister Gyawali is flying to Delhi to participate in the sixth meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission today. The meeting will take place for three days.

In the  meeting to be jointly chaired by Minister Gyawali and his Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar, the multidimensional bilateral issues including trade, transit, border issues, energy, connectivity, infrastructure, investment, tourism, COVID-19 cooperation would be discussed, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Gyawali is the senior most political leader to visit New Delhi after Nepal and India’s relations reached the nadir point in May after the Nepal government issued a new map of the country incorporating territories that Nepal claims to be its own and currently occupied by India.

Gyawali will also hold high-level meetings during his three-day India visit. Officials including foreign secretary and health secretary will accompany Minister Gyawali.

Minister Gyawali will return home on Saturday.
