KATHMANDU: The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) has stepped up its efforts to curb fraud in the foreign employment sector and address issues faced by migrant workers.
According to the Department, 29 complaints were registered with its Case and Investigation Section on June 17 alone.
The Department said 29 arrest warrants were issued during the day, while several individuals were apprehended and presented before the authorities. In addition, nine cases were resolved through mutual settlements, and 68 official documents—including letters to banks, charge sheets and recommendation letters—were dispatched.
Similarly, the Institutional Monitoring Section issued five correspondences to recruitment agencies and provided 16 passports to service seekers.
Under its rescue and relief initiatives, six migrant workers were rescued and two individuals received compensation. The section also registered 10 new complaints, facilitated 13 bilateral discussions between concerned parties, and provided counselling services in 15 cases.
The Department further stated that nine of the 11 complaints filed through the government’s Hello Sarkar grievance portal were addressed promptly. Likewise, of the 47 complaints received through the department’s call centre, 29 have already been resolved, while the remaining 18 are under process.
To make relief and rescue services more effective, the department has recommended strengthening procedures for handling complaints submitted through the secretariat of Minister for Youth, Labour and Employment Ramjee Prasad Yadav and via WhatsApp.
The Department has urged complainants to submit official documents and other supporting evidence along with their applications, stating that such documentation would help expedite relief, rescue and investigation processes.
