KU to begin classes on AI in Bachelor, Master programs



KATHMANDU: The first of its kind in the country, Kathmandu University (KU) is starting classes in Masters of Technology in Artificial Intelligence and Bachelor’s of Technology in Artificial Intelligence (AI) from this September.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering under the School of Engineering would run academic programs on AI (B. Tech and M. Tech), Dean of the Department Prof Dr. Manish Pokharel said.

Prof Dr. Pokharel said that classes on AI are aimed at producing experts for local and international levels, adding that the KU was starting this academic program for the first time in the country. He added said that 30 students would be enrolled in B. Tech and 10 in M. Tech and the classes would be residential for the students.

The students would have an access to practical knowledge through project-based learning. The students of AI can develop technology, implement data-based decision, analyze data and develop automated machine learning technology, it is said.

The total cost of the four-year B. Tech course is fixed Rs 800,000. Similarly, the fee of the Master’s of Technology in Artificial Intelligence is Rs 395,000 for two-year-term.
