Marauding bear shot dead in Jumla



JUMLA: A bear was shot dead at Khalanga bazaar of Jumla district after it attacked three locals.

The bear that entered the human settlement on Thursday morning went marauding- injured Him Bahadur Rokaya, 29, of Chandanath Municipality-4 and his spouse Nirmala Rokaya, 26. Him Bahadur was taking shower when the wild beast pounced over him Thursday morning. The bear also attacked Nirmala who shouted out of fear sighting the beast, shared Nirmala.

According to DSP Dan Bahadur Thapa at the District Police Office, Jumla, Hira Sarki of Singachaur at Chandanath Municipality-6 in the district also sustained injuries in the wild bear attack. All three injured ones were receiving treatment at the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, shared DSP Thapa.

The security personnel had reached the accident sites immediately after they were informed about the attack. They rescued the injured ones and searched for the bear that had created a terror in the hilly town throughout the day.

A team of security personnel from the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army had provided security to the locals guarding them until he wild bear was seized. They along with officials from the Division Forest Office, Jumla, later captured the wild beast albeit dead.

The bear attacked the security personnel when they tried to take it under control. In defense, security personnel fired at the bear at the instruction of the local administration, added DSP Thapa.

The experts will examine the dead body of the bear and the dead body will be laid to rest, said Chief of Division Forest Office, Jumla, Dinesh Khatri.
