KATHMANDU: Home Minister Sudan Gurung has said the government is committed to running the home administration in line with human rights principles and the spirit of the rule of law.
Responding to questions raised during discussions on the ministry’s budget at the National Assembly on Tuesday, Gurung said the primary responsibility of the home administration is to maintain peace and security while protecting the life, property and freedom of every citizen.
He said the government aims to transform the home administration beyond a traditional security-focused system and develop it as a foundation for sustainable peace, development, good governance and prosperity.
Gurung said his focus is not limited to paper commitments and speeches but on delivering visible results that allow citizens to experience improvements in security, governance and fairness.
The minister said he has been visiting different districts for monitoring and that necessary reforms will continue based on feedback received during field visits.
He also said the government has given high priority to rebuilding homes of families affected by earthquakes and monsoon-related disasters in Jajarkot and Rukum West.
Gurung added that necessary resources have been arranged to complete the reconstruction of earthquake-damaged private houses and government buildings in Jajarkot, Rukum West and other affected districts in the upcoming fiscal year.
