Verdict not under influence and pressure: CJ Rana

KATHMANDU: Chief Justice of Supreme Court Cholendra Shumsher JBR has claimed that verdicts have not been delivered under anyone’s influence and pressure.

At the 28th anniversary of the Nepal Legal Practitioners Council here on Wednesday, CJ Rana dismissed the queries that he had acted under external pressure and influence while forming benches or making judgments.

He further said, “Questions were raised while forming benches. I had formed the constitutional bench as per the seniority.”

The Chief Justice was referring to the five-member constitutional bench formed to hear writ petitions against the dissolution of the House of Representatives by erstwhile Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

CJ Rana argued, “All the verdicts of the judiciary are historic ones.” He however pledged to correct the flaws in the judiciary.

On the occasion, Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Gyanendra Bahadur Karki spoke of the need to implement the law rather than reading them only.
