NC Spokesperson Sharma directs Baidya to apologize for his statement

'NC has no tradition to cover objectionable statements'

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has directed Bagmati Provincial lawmaker Narottam Baidya to apologize for its controversial statement.

Speaking in the Provincial Assembly meeting on Friday, Bidya had said Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli deserves an assailant like Nathuram Godse.

Social media have been awash with criticisms over Baidya’s statement and ruling CPN-UML has sought an official statement about it from the NC.

Meanwhile, NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma has directed Baidya to self-criticize and withdraw his statement.

“We must exercise restraints even during the street protests, such objectionable statement cannot be pardonable,” said Sharma, directing Baidya to withdraw his statement and self-criticize.

He further said that the NC has no tradition to cover such objectionable statements through arguments.

Speaking at the provincial assembly meeting, Baidya said, “Prime Minister Oli is compromising with every issue and reaching deals to cling on to power. If Oli is let free this way, he will push the country into a perpetual abyss. Hence, an assailant like Nathuram Godse is necessary to save the nation.”

Baidya’s this statement has been criticized from all quarters.
