KATHMANDU: Chairman of Nepal Bar Association Chandeshwor Shrestha has said that Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana be relieved of his post.

Addressing a gathering on the premises of the Supreme Court on Thursday, Chairman Shrestha accused Chief Justice Rana of becoming a kingpin behind the rampant corruption taking place in the Supreme Court.

He has also blamed Chief Justice for using security forces to intervene in the protests being staged peacefully by the Nepal Bar since October 31.

Accusing Chief Justice Rana of playing a lead role in the corruptions, disparities and irregularities taking place in the apex court, Shrestha said, “Chief Justice Rana should now be relieved of his post.”

He further said that all the advocates will gather on the premises of the Supreme Court at 10 am tomorrow and bar Rana from entering the office.

The Nepal Bar Association also staged a demonstration inside the Supreme Court premises against CJ Rana, chanting slogans like ‘Corrupt Chief Justice should resign’, ‘leader of middleman Rana should resign’, among others.

Police intervened in the demonstration and some lawyers were injured in the scuffle.

Nepal Bar is determined to bar CJ Rana from entering the court.
