CPN-UML row: Decisive talks underway at Singha Durbar

To hammer out intra-party feud today

KATHMANDU: Talks between the two factions of the CPN-UML Dispute Resolution Task Force are underway at Singha Durbar.

Talk members of the Madhav Nepal faction have already entered the meeting venue one hour later than the scheduled time.

Prior to this, they had held an internal discussion with UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal at the latter’s residence in Koteshwor.

Leaders have said that they would formally announce the unity today itself.

Ruling CPN-UML, which is beset by the long-overdue intra-party feud, has said it will officially announce the consensus struck between the two warring factions by today.

UML leader Gokarna Bista, a task force member, said consensus has been almost been reached and it will be made public today.

“We have sought a consensus on a package as per the aspiration of the entire party rank and file and the people in general,” said Bista, adding, “We will make it public on today.”

The Supreme Court (SC) is issuing a verdict on the writ petition on the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Monday.

Leader Bista said the UML will hammer out intra-party differences prior to the verdict.

The task force members representing leader Madhav Nepal had gone to Koteshwor on Saturday to meet with him prior to the meeting.

Earlier, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” also held discussions with leader Nepal.

Dahal had gone to Koteshwor to take stock of Nepal’s health condition.

On Saturday evening, the ruling CPN-UML task force formed to resolve the intra-party dispute met at the Ministry of Finance.

Both factions busied themselves the whole day discussing the final stances and the possible interpretations of the agreement prepared by the task force members.

The rift in the party began as UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dissolved the House of Representatives for the first time last year.

The rift widened with Oli dissolving the parliament for the second time two months ago.
