Karnali CM Shahi assures Raute victim girls of prefab house



KATHMANDU: Karnali Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi has met two sexually abused Raute victims at his office in Birendranagar Friday.

Welcoming the Raute girls, CM Shahi assured them that a prefab house would be built for them.

Two young women of Raute community were sexually abused by three young men in Gurbhakot Municipality. Since then, security forces have been closely monitoring the Raute settlement to curb outsiders’ entry.

During the meeting with the CM Shahi, the two women complained that they had not been receiving Rs 2,000 in allowance that the provincial government provided. Krishna Prasad Acharya, Shahi’s personal secretary, said, “The victims also complained that their tents were leaking and they had run out of food,” he said.

CM Shahi told the victims there was a plan to build prefab buildings in possible places where the Rautes would live while moving around. Apart from that, CM Shahi directed the Chief Secretary and Minister of Social Development Yagya Bahadur BC, among others, to formulate a Raute policy and make necessary arrangements for their food and other necessities.

Victims undergo health check-up in Birendranagar

The victims have undergone a health check-up this afternoon. According to Raute campaigner Nagendra Upadhyaya, the victims’ health has been examined at Kalagaun provincial hospital in Birendranagar. The test report is yet to come.

Although the three perpetrators are in police custody, the girls were examined to look for more evidence.
