JANAKPURDHAM: Nearly half of the cultivable land in Province 2, a storehouse of paddy production, is filled with newly planted rice.

According to sources, more than 40 percent of the total cultivable land has entertained paddy plantations due to timely rainfall this year.

The director at the Directorate of Agricultural Development, Nakkatazhij, Dr. Ratan Kumar Jha estimated that half of the 415,000 hectares of paddy fields have been planted by the second week of July.

About 65 percent of the land here depends on the rainfall for paddy cultivation. Due to timely rains this year, planting is in full swing.

According to Dr. Jha, last year only 357,000 hectares of land were cultivated.

He expects to see an increase in rice production this year.

“The people who had lost jobs due to coronavirus pandemic have also got chance to engage themselves in paddy cultivation due to the timely rainfall,” Dr. Jha told Khabarhub.

Farmers are busy in the fields from early morning till late evening. Some farmers even eat breakfast in the fields.

“There is a competition to plant paddy the earliest in the village now,” he said. “No one has time in the village.”

There is no one in the village. Everyone is busy in plantation.
