KATHMANDU: Lawmakers have called for the strictest possible action against those responsible for the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in Simara, Bara.
Speaking during Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, lawmakers said there appeared to have been lapses by the police administration in the case and called for a thorough investigation and strong action against those responsible.
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Rahbar Ansari said the three-year-old girl was brutally murdered after being raped and alleged that the Area Police Office in Simara failed to initiate an effective search or action for 24 hours after her disappearance was reported.
Ansari demanded that authorities publish a clear “action log” detailing the steps taken by police each hour after the case was reported and called for action against officers found responsible for negligence.
He also urged the Home Ministry to take immediate steps to control illegal activities in border areas and prevent such serious crimes.
Other lawmakers also called for stringent action against those responsible.
Preliminary police investigation has found that the three-year-old girl found dead in Simara had been raped before her murder.
According to police, Garima Chaudhary, the three-year-old daughter of Manmati Chaudhary of Dasdhuri in Jitpur Simara-1, went missing from her home on August 16.
Her body was found on Tuesday in an unoccupied room of a house.
