KATHMANDU: Disgruntled Supreme Court (SC) justices have reiterated that they could not agree to any solution with Cholendra Shumsher Rana sticking to the post of Chief Justice.

An informal meeting of protesting SC judges concluded that the root cause of the current problem was Chief Justice Rana himself and judiciary would not get a solution until and unless the CJ resigns.

SC judges sat for the informal meeting after boycotting benches scheduled by CJ Rana. SC judges had agreed to hear only habeas corpus cases from Tuesday and conveyed the same to CJ Rana Monday but CJ Rana, breaching that understanding, scheduled 10 benches to hear 298 cases.

SC judges said that CJ Rana had knowingly breached the agreement and scheduled benches for all cases to give the message that the apex court was back to normal and fully functioning.

The SC judges are also stringently calling on CJ Rana to step down from the post as he failed to lead the judiciary by involving in corruption and collusion with other branches of government.

SC judges today renewed their collective resolve to seek CJ Rana’s resignation and agreed to to hear cases until the CJ tenders his resignation.

According to a judge, preparations have been made to seek support of judges across the country to suspend all courts’ activities until CJ Rana resigns. “The solution to the crisis in judiciary cannot have Rana in the mix,” said the justice.
