MCA-Nepal condemns fake dossier circulating on social media

KATHMANDU: The Millennium Challenge Account-Nepal has said that its attention has been drawn to a fake document containing the forged signature of its executive director doing rounds on social media.

MCA-Nepal took to Twitter Thursday to condemn and refute such a misleading dossier regarding Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact that tried to give an impression as if it was MCA-Nepal’s minute after a virtual meeting. MCA-Nepal clarified it was a fake dossier and there was no truth in it.

A document with the forged signature of Khadga Bahadur Bisht, executive director of MCA-Nepal Development Board, began circulating on social media on Wednesday as an MCC delegation was due to arrive in Nepal the next day. The two-page letter, dated August 20, 2021, also showcased Nepal’s coat of arms, logos of MCA-Nepal and MCC. It described MCC as ‘Millennium Challenge Coperation’ and had other slips as well.

It suggested that “US embassy needs to meet anti-MCC civil organizations and influential people; media and social media should be activated for MCC publicity; and sustainable but discrete campaign should be launched to support the MCC with the help of think tanks, journalists, television anchors and selected politicians, among others.”

The document had also contained names of some of the popular media houses and politicians and said they were to be contacted for promotion of MCC ratification. Khabarhub and its reporter also figured in the forged document.

The MCA-Nepal called for action against those involved in creating and circulating such a fake document. “We are taking initiative with the authorities concerned to take action against such work.”
