Law Minister vows to make laws to assist infrastructure development

KATHMANDU: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has pledged to formulate laws to assist physical infrastructure development.

At a meeting with a delegation of Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal on Thursday, Minister Karki said that contractors-friendly laws would be made but argued that the contractors should ensure quality construction. Minister Karki was of the view that construction sector was in problems for the trend of low-bidding in the construction works.

“For the resolution of low-bid problems, laws should be amended. The government will work for this. The contractors should also enhance their capacities,” he added.

On the occasion, Federation’s Chair Rabi Singh-led delegation welcomed the government’s decision taken on August 19 to extend the deadline of projects that remained uncompleted for many reasons including COVID-19.

The Federation has also urged the government to lay off income tax, VAT, provide refinancing, concessional loans, renewal of insurance and other subsidies to the construction entrepreneurs while asking to include those demands in the supplementary budget being tabled in the parliament by the new government.
