SC issues short-term interim order against dissolution of Land Commission

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a short-term interim order to the government in a writ petition against the dissolution of the Land Issue Resolving Commission (LIRC).

According to SC sources, a bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada passed the order on Monday in separate writ petitions filed by advocate Pravesh KC and chairperson of the Commission Devi Gyawali.

Hearing both the writ petitions, the bench has issued the same order.

SC has also ordered LIRC to submit the reasons for its dissolution.

At the same time, both the parties have been called for discussion on August 17 to decide whether to continue the interim order or not.

“In view of the sensitivity and seriousness of this issue, it is necessary to hold a discussion in the presence of both the parties. A short-term interim order has been issued to maintain the status quo without any change or transformation,” SC said on Monday.

The government had decided to dissolve the land commission last Tuesday.
