KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has refused to issue an interim order against the President’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives.

A Constitutional Bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana on Wednesday ruled that an interim order should be issued after a preliminary hearing on the writ petition against the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

The SC has also issued a show-cause order in the name of the government seeking details on the issues leading to the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR).

The Constitutional Bench on Wednesday issued a show-cause order in the name of the opposition of the writ petitions filed against the dissolution of HoR.

According to Govinda Sharma Bandi, a lawyer taking part in the debate from the writ petitioners’ side, the bench has also decided to hold a continuous hearing in these cases from June 23.

Even after the majority members of the House of Representatives handed over their signatures to President Bidya Devi Bhandari demanding to appoint Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba as the Prime Minister under Article 76(5) of the constitution, President Bhandari, at the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Oli had dissolved the parliament.

There are 30 cases related to the dissolution of the HoR undergoing a hearing in the Constitutional Bench at the Supreme Court.
