CPN (Maoist Center) for new alliance to ensure full five-year term of parliament

KATHMANDU: Political parties are engaged in creating a new alliance to form the next government following the revival of the then CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center).

Currently, there are 270 members in the federal parliament. If the CPN (Maoist Center) withdrew its support to the incumbent government, Prime Minister KP Oli has to form a new alliance either with Nepali Congress (NC) (184) or Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) (155) to run the government.

Similarly, another possible alliance to form the government could be between NC, CPN (Maoist Center) and JSP (150).

Currently, CPN-UML has the highest number of seats with 121 followed by NC with 63, while CPN (Maoist Center) and JSP have 53 and 34 respectively.

Likewise, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP), Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and independent have one each.  Of the total 275 members in the federal parliament, four lawmakers have been suspended while one lawmaker has passed away.

Maoist Center is making preparations to form a new alliance to run the government until a full five-year term as per the provision of the Constitution. “We are making preparations to form a new alliance to ensure the full five-year term of the federal parliament to defend the Constitution,” said Narayan Kaji Shrestha, a leader of the Maoist Center.
