Number of cancer patients growing in Jhapa



JHAPA: The cases of cancer have been increasing lately in Jhapa district owing to various reasons such as adulterated food, unhealthy lifestyle and lack of timely diagnosis, among others.’

The Purwanchal Cancer Hospital, which is one among the five cancer hospitals in the country, records over 60 cancer patients for regular heath check-up in the Hospital’s OPD on a daily basis.

Pubic Relation Officer at the Hospital Pramis Giri shared that a total of 18,445 cancer patients had received treatment from the hospital last fiscal year. Among them 2,945 were new cancer patients.

The Hospital was established a year ago at Birtamode, Jhapa.

Medical Director of the Hospital Dr Birendra Yadav underscored the need for massive awareness drive on cancer, he shared that among the 2,945 new cancer patients recorded in the Hospital last year, half of them were from Jhapa district.

Among the cancer cases, breast cancer in women have been reported in the highest number in the Hospital.

There are a total of 12 healthcare facilities which render cancer related treatment while there are only 60 oncologists, according to the Hospital. RSS
