KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel has reached the residence of another leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula seeking latter’s support for the presidential candidate of his faction.
According to sources, Poudel, who was participating in a program to select a presidential candidate from his group in Gaushala, reached Sitaula’s residence taking a break from the meeting.
Although the final days for the nomination of the candidates are inching closer, NC leaders are still unable to find a unanimous candidate against Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Earlier the leaders of the Poudel faction had gathered at Prakash Man Singh’s residence in Chaksibari, Kathmandu, to discuss settle on the name of the presidential candidate from their camp. However, the discussion failed to bear any fruit.
Poudel has reached Sitaula’s residence to request him to support him as the presidential candidate in the 14th General Convention of the party.
Sitaula, who supported Sher Bahadur Deuba during the second round of voting for the 13th General Convention, has not yet openly stated who he will support. However, many speculate that he will support Deuba in this convention.
Sitaula supported Deuba faction’s presidential candidate in Province 1. Yet, Poudel faction are still optimistic of garnering Sitaula’s support for their side this time.
