KATHMANDU: Supreme Court has received a writ petition filed against Home Ministry’s Friday’s ‘high—sounding’ statement intended to warn the public not to protest against the neighboring government or the development projects.
According to SC sources, advocate Prabesh KC filed a writ petition in the apex court alleging that Home Ministry’s statement violated the freedom of thought and expression of the citizens.
Advocate KC has argued that the government’s statement was against the Article 17 of the Constitution.
Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued a statement on September 3 stating that strict action would be taken against those who made negative remarks targeting the development projects run with the help of allied nations, employees working there, foreign nationals and their assets.
The writ petitioner alleges that Article 17 of the Constitution of Nepal has provided constitutional protection to the freedom of thought and expression of the citizens.
The Nepal Bar Association, on Tuesday, had also objected to the statement.
