KATHMANDU: Foundation stone for the construction of statues of former Prime Minister late Tanka Prasad Acharya and former Chief Secretary late Chandra Bahadur Thapa has been laid.

The statues of Acharya and Thapa are going to be constructed at the under-construction Civil Service Memorial area. Both of them had taken leadership to issue Civil Service Act for the first time.

The Act was issued on September 6, 1956. Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi today laid the foundation stone for statues at under construction Civil Service Memorial area located at community forest in Gokarneshwor municipality-4.

Chairperson of National Martyr and Peace Park, Civil Service (Memorial) Yagyadol (Jagdol) Community Forest Eco-Tourism Promotion and Garden Management Committee, Sudarshan Sigdel, said that a target has been set to complete the construction of statues within next year.

On the occasion, Chief Secretary Bairagi directed the bodies concerned to complete the construction works of both statues within current fiscal year.

Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Suresh Acharya, said that the concept of UNESCO village, being constructed at memorial area, would connect many issues.

Likewise, Secretary at the Forest Ministry, Dr Pem Narayan Kandel, shared that the Jagdol community forest has presented an example that forest would be protected even by construction of memorial structures in community forest.

It is said the Civil Service Day would be organised at the project site next year after completing the construction of the statues in the current fiscal year, 2021/22.

On the occasion, 50 tree saplings of various types were planted at the project site.

Similarly, he launched the second edition of a book entitled ‘Chhoto Ramayan’ written by former Chief Secretary Thapa 90 years ago.

There has been a delay in the construction of a Nepal Civil Service memorial in Gokarna.

Started 10 years ago, only eighty percent construction of the project has been completed, said the Committee Chairperson Sigdel.

Now, the Ministry of Urban Development has been given the task of overseeing the project following the removal of earlier the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction.

Negligence on the part of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction towards the project caused a delay, complained local people.

Danphe-Gauri-Parbat-Sunaula-Khimti JV has been awarded contract for the project.

Preparations are underway to blacklist the constructing company that caused a delay in the project, said senior divisional engineer for the Department Machakaji Maharjan.

The memorial will come into operation after completing its construction within the current FY, he said.
