Govt preparing to sign labor pact with Qatar



KATHMANDU: Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security Gauri Shankar Chaudhary said that the government is preparing to sign a labor agreement with Qatar.

Minister Chaudhary said that security guards and volunteers were needed for the upcoming Olympics in Qatar and that discussions were underway on how to bring the required workers from Nepal through Government to Government (G2G) process.

He said, “We are discussing how to send the required migrant workers from Nepal through G2G process and how to amend the procedure for this.”

Minister Chaudhary also claimed that he has already discussed with the Qatari Ambassador to Nepal for the agreement.

The Ministry is preparing to convene a meeting as soon as possible to discuss with the experts.

Stating that creating self-employment environment in Nepal is the first priority, Minister Chaudhary said that they are preparing to send them abroad safely if they have to go abroad.

He further informed that the time has come to amend the labor agreements with some of the countries that have signed labor agreements and the ministry has started preparations to amend the labor agreements with some countries.
