Pakistan honors over 200 Nepali students with scholarships

KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Pakistan in Nepal honored more than 200 outstanding Nepali students at the 14th Annual Ambassador of Pakistan Scholarship Ceremony held at Aloft Hotel in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

The event brought together students, teachers, parents, and representatives from Nepal’s education and media sectors.

Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, Abrar H. Hashmi, presided over the ceremony as the chief guest and personally awarded scholarships to deserving higher secondary school students from across the country. The recipients were selected by their respective schools based on academic merit and financial need.

To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, a laptop was presented to Prapti Lamsal of the Institute of Forestry, Pokhara Campus, under Tribhuvan University. She was recognized as the highest-performing student among this year’s scholarship recipients.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Hashmi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting education in Nepal.

“This is not just a scholarship ceremony; it is a celebration of Nepal’s future,” he said.

He encouraged students to develop expertise in STEM, health sciences, biosciences, innovation, diplomacy, financial literacy, and critical thinking, describing these fields as essential for the next generation of leaders.

Ambassador Hashmi noted that Pakistan’s educational support to Nepal extends beyond secondary-level scholarships. The assistance includes scholarships for primary and higher secondary students, higher education opportunities in Pakistan, and institutional support for Nepali schools in areas such as information technology, sports, liberal arts, and STEM education.

The Ambassador of Pakistan Scholarship Program- launched in 2013 – has grown into one of the most respected foreign scholarship initiatives in Nepal, having supported thousands of Nepali students in pursuing academic excellence, according to the Embassy.
