NEB postpones Grade 12 exams until further notice

374,000 students affected by the decision

KATHMANDU: National Examinations Board (NEB) has postponed the Board exam of Grade 12, which was formerly scheduled to start from August 15.

Speaking to the reporters after NEB meeting on Saturday, Ram Sharan Thapaliya, secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, informed that the Board meeting held on Saturday decided to postpone the exam citing the possibility of coronavirus pandemic spread from the examination centers.

“We have postponed it for now, we will publish another notice to let the students know the next schedule,” Thapaliya said, assuring, “The students will be informed about the exam at least 15 days prior to their exam date.”

There are 374,000 students appearing for the Grade 12 exam this year.

Earlier, The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) had recommended postponing the Board examination of Grade 12.

Writing to COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) and the Ministry of Education, the MoHP had urged the authorities to reconsider their decision to conduct the Grade 12 exam on the scheduled date.

Earlier, NEB had suspended the exam scheduled for April, citing the second wave of coronavirus pandemic.

The NEB had started preparations to conduct the exam from August 15 by keeping only 25 students in a classroom and maintaining physical distance. Preparations were made to conduct PCR test before the examination, and also ensure that all health safety standards are made before attending the exam.

However, citing the alarming rise of the coronavirus infection in the country, MoHP asked the Ministry of Education and CCMC to take initiation for the postponement.
