DDA paves way to import Russian Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccines

KATHMANDU: Paving the way to procure the Russian Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, the Department of Drug Administration (DDA) has issued a permit to Lomash Pharmaceuticals to import the vaccine.

DDA Spokesperson Santosh KC confirmed that permission was given to local agent Lomash Pharma to bring Sputnik V vaccine.

The Sputnik vaccine, developed by Russia’s Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, is said to be 92 percent more effective. This vaccine should be administered in two doses by maintaining 21 days gap.

Sputnik V vaccine also needs to be stored at a temperature of 2 to 8 degrees for use.

The DDA said the company importing Sputnik V vaccine in Nepal will not be allowed to charge more than 10 percent commission.

The DDA has already given permission to Emerald Pharma to bring Covaxin-vaccine and Hukam Distributors to procure Covishiel
