Upper Tamakoshi in final state, tunnel ready by April 21



KATHMANDU: The ongoing Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project (456 MW) has reached the final stage of construction.

Major works as intake, tunnel, transmission line and substation have been completed.

There are now minor civil and mechanical works going on under the project.

Although one of the national pride projects was expected to be completed before coming to New Year (2078BS), it was delayed because of Covid-19 and some technical glitches.

Lot-2 Hydro-mechanical contractor company has committed that the works as wielding and painting would be completed by April 21.

Similarly, the installation of a penstock pipe has been over. Embankment/intake, main tunnel, powerhouse, tailrace tunnel as part of the major construction have also been completed.

Executive Director at Nepal Electricity Authority and Chairperson of Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Ltd, Hitendra Dev Shakya, conducted an inspection visit and held discussion with project officials, consultants, and contractors on the schedule of releasing water to the tunnel with speedy completion of the remaining works.
