PM Oli takes first dose of COVID-19 vaccine



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Prime Minister Oli reached the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) on Sunday morning and administered the vaccine.

PM’s spouse Radhika Shakya also received the coronavirus jab today.

Talking to journalists after the vaccination, PM Oli urged one and all to contribute to making the campaign successful.

He also urged people to take vaccine without any doubt as it is safe.

The government targets to administer the anti-Covid-19 vaccines to 72 percent of the total population.

In the first phase, 1.4 percent population was vaccinated. Prior to this, the government had got one million doses of vaccine on grants from the government of India and already procured the one million doses of vaccines.

Similarly, one million doses are in the process of import from India. The 20-day long second phase drive targets the citizens above 65 years of age.

With this, the second phase of immunization campaign began officially Sunday.

Likewise, Health Minister Hridayesh Tripathi, Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, and Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali also received the coronavirus vaccine jab at the TUTH today.

Earlier on Sunday, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa reached the Armed Police Hospital at Balambu this morning and administered the first dose of vaccine.
