Jumla welcomes students for MBBS course



JUMLA: After a decade of its establishment, the Jumla-based Karnali Academy of Health Sciences has enrolled first batch of students for MBBS course.

With the new move, expectations are high among people in the Karnali province regarding their access to health education and health care services.

The Academy started to run the MBBS classes based on the decision of the Medical Education Commission taken on June 12 allowing the Jumla-based institution to receive 20 MBBS students.

Fifteen students, who made through the Medical Education Commission’s integrated entrance examination, received admission from the Academy on Sunday. All 15 students have received full scholarship while five others would be admitted to the Academy after paying fees.
The Academy organized a welcome program to receive the new students on Sunday.

Om Kumar Yadav, the first student to receive admission, said he is ‘highly elated’ to get admission in the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences.

Likewise, another student Apekshya Parajuli said she has full confidence to the high-quality of teachers, laboratory and equipment.
The Academy has already started Masters’ in Medicine (MD), Bachelors’ in Pharmacy (M. Pharmacy), Bachelors’ in Nursing (BN) and some other courses from this academy year.

The Academy is running a 300-bed hospital in Jumla for the studies of higher education in the medical field.

Rector of Academy Prof Dr Niresh Thapa said that the dream of talents to get admission for the medical education has been materialized adding that ‘door to make Karnali a medical hub has opened’.

“Now, our focus would be centered on producing best doctors,” he shared.
