Police nab fraudster traveling abroad 39 times using fake passport

KATHMANDU: Nepal police has nabbed a person who has traveled abroad 39 times from Tribhuvan International Airport using another person’s passport.

According to Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Mahendra Bhandari, 44, of Duhabi Bhaluwa Municipality-4, Sunsari, has been arrested by the Crime Branch on charge of forging and using a fake passport.

Bhandari had used two passports issued in the name of Raju Poudel of Dhuwakot-3, Gorkha. Using those two passports, he went to Qatar 39 times from 2015 to 2019, according to the police.

“He used to work as a manpower agent in Qatar. But after the Qatari government blacklisted him, he started using someone else’s passport,” the police said.

It is found that after being blacklisted, Bhandari first changed the photo of Poudel and used his passport for travel; and later managed to get an MRP passport in Poudel’s name.

The police are investigating further to find details, including how he managed to get MRP in other’s name.
