Peace Conference set to kick off in Spain

KATHMANDU: Lumbini Garden Foundation is set to organize a peace conference in Extremadura Province of Spain from April 7.

The conference, showcasing various programs aimed at spreading Lord Buddha’s message of peace, will tour different parts of the world in the coming days.

National Assembly (NA) Chairman Ganesh Timilsina will inaugurate the six-day event in the presence of Extremadura Province President Guillermo Fernández Vara. The conference is being held from April 7 to 12 adhering to social distancing rules.

A team comprising NA Chair Timilsina, Lumbini Municipality Mayor Manmohan Chaudhary, Ramgram Municipality Mayor Narendra Kumar Gupta and Kapilvastu Municipality Mayor Kiran Singh, among others, has reached Madrid on Tuesday to attend the conference.

Conference organizer, Lumbini Garden Foundation, has an ambitious plan to erect ‘Lumbini Garden’, a peace complex that features a giant monument of Buddha to represent world peace, in the Spanish city of Cáceres in Extremadura region, Spain. The Peace Conference is part of preparation to materialize the ‘Lumbini Garden’ project, according to the foundation.

The conference will feature visual publicity of Lumbini Garden project and expand it to other cities and countries such as Myanmar, Thailand and Hong Kong, among others.

Lumbini and Cáceres cities, both world heritage sites, established sisterly relations on the premises of Maya Devi Temple in Lumbini in 2020.
