Police arrest manager of Being Human store with undisclosed income of Rs 6.95 million

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Hiroshi Khanal, manager of Being Human store, with undisclosed income of Rs 6.95 million in Kathmandu.

According to Metropolitan Police Circle Chief SSP Ashok Singh, he was arrested from Durbar Marg-based Being Human store at 5:30 pm on Friday, acting on a tip-off. The amount recovered from Khanal is suspected to have arrived through illegal ‘hundi’ channels. The amounts- Rs 4.9 million in denomination of Rs 1,000, 2.05 million in denomination of Rs 500 —were packed in a blue bag.

Khanal has been sent to the Department of Money Laundering Investigation in Pulchowk, Lalitpur. “The department would carry out further investigations into him,” Singh said.

Though Being Human is a philanthropic foundation started by Indian superstar Salman Khan, the organization is suspected to be involved in illegal hundi business in Nepal.

Raju Thapa Chhetri and Santosh Pokharel are the main operators of the organization in Nepal and are said to be out of country at present. Police said search for them is underway.
