Culture and tradition should be protected: Minister Shrestha

DAMAULI: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Krishna Kumar Shrestha has spoken of the need of handing over the unique culture and tradition to the future generation.

He said so while addressing a programme organised by the Newah Deya Dabu Guthi Samanwaya Samiti, a community organisation, at Damauli today.

The programme was organised to mark the Nepal Sambat New Year 1142. Minister Shrestha said it has become imperative to preserve the unique culture and traditions.

Expressing concern over the culture facing crisis within the community itself, Minister Shrestha said, “The present generation of the Newars should socialize the future generation on their unique culture and customs. We can preserve our culture only if this is done.”

Saying it was the responsibility of the government to protect the languages and culture of all the communities, he said the Nepal Sambat New Year should be taken as an occasion to maintain goodwill among all castes and creeds.

He shared that programme would be brought to create employment opportunities for the youths losing work due to COVID-19.

Province minister without portfolio Dobate Bishwokarma said the three tiers of the government should work in tandem for the development of the district.

Vyas municipality mayor Baikuntha Neupane stressed on becoming inspired from the Nepal Sambat calendar for promoting social understanding and humanitarian service.

Former mayor Tara Prasad Shrestha said the Newari culture is Nepal’s asset and it should be preserved and promoted.

Central vice-president of Newah Dabu Shankar Narayan Shrestha called on the government to bring the Nepal Sambat calendar into use.
