Take-offs and landings affected due to low visibility at Tribhuvan International Airport

KATHMANDU: Regular take-offs and landings at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) were affected Saturday morning due to reduced visibility resulting from the change in the weather system in the country.

TIA Office Spokesperson Prem Nath Thakur said that seven flights were kept on hold in air Saturday morning and one aircraft of Fly Dubai ship was diverted to Lucknow, India.

According to Spokesperson Thakur, visibility must be 800 meters for domestic flights and it ought to be 1,600 meters for international arrivals. However, Saturday morning’s visibility was limited to 500 to 600 meters at TIA.

Passengers were crowding the TIA as scheduled take-offs were affected.

The cyclone in the Bay of Bengal is also having an indirect effect besides the direct influence of westerly wind in the country.
