Floods, landslides ruin physical properties of Rs 1 billion in Nason Rural Municipaity



MANANG: Physical damage and loss of over Rs 1 billion incurred when the incessant rain-triggered floods and landslides broke down the hydropower projects and roads in Nason Rural Municipality of Manang district.

The floods and landslides triggered by the incessant rainfall since June 28 damaged the physical properties worth amounting to Rs 1 billion and 18.3 million in the rural municipality. According to the rural municipality’s information officer Govinda Ranabhat, road sector witnessed the biggest volume of damage of Rs 836.5 million. The floods and landslides caused loss of around Rs 50 million to the administrative building of rural municipality.

Floods had taken away four out of seven bridges, and only three are on condition of repair and maintenance, said the rural municipality source. The bridge went through a full and partial damage of Rs 52 million. Damage  amounting to Rs 45 million was caused to the three hydropower projects, Ranabhat informed.

The flood also swept away a motorbike worth Rs 300,000. The flood occurred in the Marsyangdi River on June 18 inflicted a big loss of physical structures of the rural municipality in Manang. The disaster incurred loss and damages in all wards, excluding ward 2.

Rural municipality chair Chandra Ghale informed that wards 1,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9 went through a complete devastation triggered by floods and landslides.
