KATHMANDU: Province No. 2 has requested the federal government to revoke its plan to extract export river products of Chure range to reduce trade deficit and has warned to defy the orders if the river product extraction program is not revoked.
Issuing a press statement on Thursday, Province 2 Chief Minister Lal Babu Raut warned the federal government to revolt against its decision to go for extraction of river products of Chure range if the government does not rescind the decision.
“Province 2 will take necessary decision for the protection of Chure and natural resources if the federal government does not annul its programs to exploit Chure region,” CM Raut said in his statement.
Stating that the Chure Hills, which stretches from Saptari to Parsa, is the shield of the province, he said that the people have been protesting against the government’s plans to exploit the Chure and harm the entire ecology.
“The soil in the Chure area is very weak. Chure exploitation is sure to damage all its natural resources,” CM Raut said, adding, “This riverbed extraction will not only damage the ecology but also affect the granary of the country adversely.”
He has lambasted the program of river product extraction of Chure region to reduce trade deficit as suicidal, unjust and unacceptable.
