KATHMANDU: The opposition coalition in Province 1 has started discussions for the formation of a new government.

The opposition alliance of five parties — Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center, CPN-(Unified Socialist), Janata Samajwadi Party, and Federal Democratic Forum have initiated discussions to decide their next move.

According to a leader, they are already engaged in discussions to decide the next move.

The provincial government led by CPN-UML leader Bhim Acharya is in the minority after 10 lawmakers chose to join the CPN-Unified Socialist party led by Madhav Kumar Nepal.

The Province 1 Assembly has 21 lawmakers from the Nepali Congress, 15 from the CPN-Maoist Center, 10 from the Unified Socialist, 3 from the Janata Samajwadi Party, 1 from the Federal Democratic National Forum, and 1 from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
