KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has said that the Prime Minister dissolved the Parliament after attempts were made for a political coup by registering a no-confidence motion with a majority in the Parliament.

Speaking at a gathering of Prime Minister KP Oli faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) in the Capital, Thapa claimed that the Prime Minister had taken a political step and that it was a very bold step.

“It’s more political than constitutional. It is a bold move to stop political coups and regression, “Thapa said.

Minister Thapa said that the dispute in the ruling party was due to ‘power-sharing’ and ‘greed for power’.

He also said that people’s support was needed to stop the counter-revolution.

“The old parliament became a means of instability. Its restoration is not necessary. A new parliament is needed. That is why we have decided to go for the polls,” he said.
