Four former chief justices acquitted in contempt of court case

KATHMANDU: Four former Chief Justices (CJs) of the Supreme Court have been acquitted in a contempt of court case.

A joint bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana and Justice Sapana Malla Pradhan on Friday ruled that the accusations made in the writ petition were not sufficient to sue the former CJs.

Former CJs Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anupraj Sharma, Kalyan Shrestha and Sushila Karki had issued a joint statement saying that the dissolution of the House of Representatives was unconstitutional.

Advocate Rajaram Ghimire had filed a writ petition against the CJs alleging that the CJs statement had induced contempt of court.
