UML to file case against EC for recognizing Unified Socialist as a party



KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has decided to file a writ against the Election Commission (EC) for the latter’s ‘controversial decision’ to register CPN-Unified Socialist.

UML’s Central Office Secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang informed that the Central Committee (CC) meeting of the party has decided to file a writ petition against EC alleging it had ignored the notice about the party’s decision to take disciplinary action against 14 lawmakers including leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.

“We are preparing to register the case within the office hours Wednesday. Work is underway to finalize the details of the case,” he said.

Recognizing the identities of 30 lawmakers including the 14 who were dismissed by the party and 55 central committee members as the UML leaders till August 25, the commission had given the certificate of political party to Nepal led- CPN -Unified Socialists last week.

A meeting of the party’s central committee held on Friday had decided to seek legal redressal saying that the commission had given the certificate of registration of the new party by recognizing the identities of the lawmakers who were dismissed from the party for working against the party.
