Monsoon affects 26 districts, house reconstruction in high priority



KATHMANDU: The monsoon has badly affected 26 districts including Sindhupalchowk and Manang since the first week of June.

It has caused huge loss to public life and properties. The Ministry of Home Affairs has shared information that 27 people lost their lives in the monsoon-caused disaster while 26 have gone missing.

Ministry Spokesperson Janakraj Dahal informed that 19 persons were injured in the floods and landslides occurred in different districts.

Similarly, a total of 462 houses were completely damaged and 110 suffered partial damage.

Among those affected by the floods and landslides, 1600 people have been shifted to safer places.

Nepali army helicopter was used to rescue 268 persons while more than 400 people were rescued with joint efforts of security persons.

Relief materials were distributed via helicopters in the most affected Sindhupalchowk and Manang districts.

The Ministry further informed that government has prioritized the reconstruction of private houses in the affected area.

For this, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has been working actively.

The monetary assistance of Rs 120 million has been provided to 3,949 households to reconstruct the houses. It is provided by the Finance Ministry.

The Ministry has requested everyone to remain alert for the incessant rainfall was occurring in several places across the country.

It has thanked all government bodies and people’s representatives for their role on search, rescue and relief distribution in the disaster.
