Revenue from vehicle import declines due to COVID-19 effects

BIRGUNJ: The customs revenue is found decreasing in Birgunj Customs Office as vehicle imports from India and third countries were adversely affected due to COVID-19 outbreak and its effects across the globe.

According to customs officer Shailendra Adhikari, the revenue collected in the five months of current fiscal year 2020/21 till mid-December is Rs 3.29 billion.

Revenue from vehicle import in the same period in the last fiscal year was Rs 4.12 billion.

The record shows that 80 per cent vehicles are imported via this customs point from India while 20 per cent from third countries.

The nationwide lockdown since about past 10 months adversely affected the domestic and foreign trade including import of goods along with light and heavy vehicles.
