KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Agni Prasad Sapkota has pointed out the need for expanding the existing scope of COVID-19 testing and boosting the morale of health workers and all other individuals involved in the treatment process.

In an appeal on Monday, Sapkota has urged for appropriate distribution of health materials and equipment while praising the dedication of health workers and security officials who are in the frontline in the fight against COVID-19.

Speaker Sapkota has also appreciated the government’s economic relief packages targeted to the ones severely affected by the lockdown.

The Speaker has suggested that such relief package should cover the daily wage earners.

Arguing that lockdown was a compulsion to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection, the Speaker urged all people to abide by the government directive of lockdown.

The government is taking efforts for the prevention, control and treatment of this disease and different neighboring countries are also extending their support by providing highly-essential health materials, Sapkota stated.

Recalling that the HoR meeting on March 6 held discussions on a national resolution against COVID-19, the Speaker said that the Federal Parliament was always ready for further initiative.

He hoped that the pandemic will not long last but it all depends on our collective commitment how long it takes to control in our country while urging all for self-discipline to defeat the pandemic.
