KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has drawn the attention of the government over the highly-debated Media Council Bill.
The umbrella organization of Nepali journalists has demanded the amendment to the bill arguing that some of the provisions in the bill are against the established norms of press freedom and against the Constitution.
FNJ is concerned over licensing exams for new journalists among other provisions.
It has presented point-wise written suggestions to the bill as per the freedom of press and freedom of expression guaranteed by the Constitution and international conventions.
“FNJ demands to amend the bill that was tabled unilaterally without holding discussions and consultations,” FNJ Chairman Govinda Acharya said in a statement.
