Cementing federal republic is shared responsibility: PM Oli

DHANGADHI: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said present constitution is not presented by anyone but written by the people’s representatives and promulgated by the constituent assembly. Protecting and nurturing constitution and federal republic is a shared responsibility, he added.

In his special address to the Sudurpaschim Province Assembly meeting on Sunday, PM Oli reiterated that constitution is achieved through people’s long struggles and sacrifice. So, all needs to abide by the constitutionally ensured democratic system and provisions, he urged.

The statement given by former king Gyanendra Shah on the occasion of the Democracy Day was unusual, PM Oli commented, adding that being emotional does not help build country. The PM also reminded that ill efforts were on to create another bout of unrest in the country.

He thanked all political parties that they had stood together against such machination.

PM Oli utilized the moment to comment further, “There were rumours that the former king would be brought back to the rule by directing him into Narayanhiti.”

“Does anyone become a ruler once he/she is ensconced in a chair? Doesn’t he/she need people’s mandate?” He wondered and added, “President Ramchandra Paudel is elected as the Head of the State. Can anyone placed in a chair become a king?”

The head of the government reminded that the present government is made after the consensus between two large political parties. He would hand over government leadership as per the agreement made before, Oli shared.
